While the RV explosion that occurred during the pandemic has died down a bit in the last couple of years, there are still plenty of reasons to hop on board these mobile sleepers — especially when it comes to camper vans, which have evolved considerably since the heyday of the emblematic Volkswagen Buses of the ‘60s and ‘70s. With their smaller footprint, these class B RVs can get you to more places and have loads of new tech that won’t make you feel as cramped as you used to.

After years of speculation following its 2017 concept of the ID.Buzz, VW finally unveiled official specs for the long-awaited return of its iconic Bus to the North American market — this time in fully electric form based on the shared MEB platform of its ID.Series. However, without camping accommodations equipped in the new vehicles, American VW conversion firm Peace Vans has decided to make one themselves.

Who is Peace Vans?

Since 2013, Peace Vans has been selling and renting out Vanagons and Buses for those who want interior upgrades or electric engine conversions. Today, they’re considered the “largest VW Camper repair and restoration business” in the United States. Not only are they one of the foremost experts in their field but they’ve also expanded to Mercedes Sprinter and Metris vans as well. Their work was so impressive that they even got noticed by Mercedes itself who made Peace Vans their official partner for the Metris in 2020.

Peace Vans ID.Buzz Camper Van Basics

Even though the new ID.Buzz won’t have any camper van features, the mere existence of the vehicle creates a platform for Peace Vans to do their thing. For this new conversion, they’ve worked directly with VW for a trio of options for our upcoming adventures.

For the Buzz.Box, Peace Vans converts the entire third row of your ID.Buzz into a camp kitchen accessible from the vehicle’s rear. The compact arrangement not only includes cooking and food amenities like a 25L Dometic fridge, a gas burner, a collapsible sink, and tons of countertop space but it also offers lots of compact storage space. It also comes with lighting, a Sonos speaker, and wireless device charging for days at the beach or the campsite. As for the Buzz.Box.Sleeper, you’ll get most of the above amenities from the Buzz.Box but with a queen-size mattress for two people installed above.

Lastly, the Buzz.Camper option gives you a all-in-one camper van with a complete interior buildout that sleeps two people and has a bed that transforms into a dining area with a table and bench seating. Likewise, the front passenger seat rotates around for socializing.
