ROA’s $200K Roamer X Base Camp Hauls Enough Lithium and Solar to Stay Off-Grid Indefinitely

Hardcore off-road trailers have long been an Australian specialty. And here in America, we often have to settle for imports or softened “rugged” packages on standard campers. Shane Stauffer, founder of Utah dealer ROA Off-Road, openly admits he didn’t know how to manufacture anything. He just knew nobody in America was building the trailer he wanted to sell (which tracks). So he partnered with Pause, spent nearly four years on development, and the result has finally landed at his door. Meet the Roamer X.

Twelve Inches of Give

At 27 feet long with an 11,000-pound GVWR, this is no teardrop. But the bones here mean business. The trailer features a huck-riveted aluminum frame, MORryde air suspension with a full 12 inches of travel, upsized 12-inch brakes, and a fully articulating ball hitch.

This is some of the hardest working hardware you’ll find on any trailer, and it’s literally the size of a studio apartment.

A Substation on Wheels

The Roamer X carries 2,160 amp-hours of Expion 360 lithium in the floor, with dual 3,000-watt Victron inverters pushing full 50-amp service to every outlet at once.

Recharging duty falls to 3,160 watts of solar. It’s split between 1,400 watts on the roof, 960 watts woven into a 15-foot Girard awning, and 800 watts of portable briefcase panels you can drag into the sun while the trailer sits in the shade.

Residential, Not Rustic

All that juice feeds an interior that’s chock full of amenities. An AquaHot Wave 40 pumps out 34,000 BTU of ducted heat plus unlimited hot water, while dual 18,000-BTU Chill Cubes cool the front and rear independently, and all of it is rated to 10,000 feet of altitude.

Beyond the climate flex, there’s also a private king bedroom, an enlarged mid-ship bath, leather recliners, an electric fireplace with a ceiling-mounted projector above it, and two full kitchens (complete with dishwasher, of course).
