Storyteller Overland’s GXV WILD Drops Its Entire Rear Wall Into a Back Porch

We’ve covered Storyteller Overland a handful of times over the years, but the last time something big came onto our radar was all the way back in 2023. At that time, the Alabama outfit had just dropped the Hilt, which was a $400,000 RAM 5500-based expedition truck that kicked off its GXV lineup. It was a great rig, but let’s be honest, most driveways (and budgets) aren’t built for something that size.

Storyteller clearly got the memo, because its newest adventure truck shrinks the formula down without gutting the good stuff (and adjusts the budget a bit as well). Meet the GXV WILD.

A HEMI on Regular Pump Gas

Underneath the RV’s shell sits a RAM 3500 single cab (in Big Horn Level 2 trim), and it’s powered by the trusty 6.4-liter HEMI V8. Output lands at 375 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque through an 8-speed TorqueFlite, and the whole thing runs happily on regular 87 octane.

The single cab was a deliberate call too, trading empty seats for cargo capacity. From there, Storyteller handed things off to AEV for a 3-inch lift, then bolted on forged 20×9-inch wheels wrapped in meaty 37-inch MPT rubber. A 12,000-pound Warn winch and a Diode Dynamics light bar round out the trail insurance.

The Capsule Life

Climb inside (there’s cab-to-cabin access, thankfully) and the WILD sleeps four adults between a loft queen and a converting rear dinette. The galley packs a stainless Vitrifrigo fridge and freezer, a stowable induction cooktop, and a microwave that moonlights as both a convection oven and an air fryer.

There’s a proper wet bath with a shower and cassette toilet, while a 13.5k BTU Truma AC and 14k BTU hydronic heat handle everything from Moab in July to the Rockies in January. Keeping it all alive is a 12kWh Mastervolt system with a 4,500-watt inverter and up to 800 watts of solar, managed from a single Simrad-built Mission Control touchscreen.

Drop the Tailgate… Er, Wall

But the WILD’s signature move lives out back. The entire rear wall of the capsule folds down into the FlipOut Deck, an elevated open-air platform complete with a safety fence, overhead lighting, 120V outlets, and a bug screen.

It essentially gives the camper a covered back porch wherever your 37s stop rolling. Morning coffee at 10,000 feet suddenly has a proper venue.
