No matter how vintage an automobile is, it’s difficult to actually convince yourself that you’ve traveled back in time. However, walking into a retro trailer does something completely different, immersing you in a different time and place entirely.
Up for auction right now is a 1947 Westcraft Sequoia, a 28-foot dual-axle trailer with an interior that’s utterly period-correct. We rarely cover campers this vintage but, c’mon! How cool is this??

The Other Aluminum Trailer
When we think of vintage aluminum travel trailers, the first marque that comes to mind is Airstream. However, there was another Southern California-based brand operating in those early days. Founded in 1932 by the George T. Hall Company, Westcraft spent the first half of the ‘40s aiding defense programs during the War. It was then revived in 1946 when it decided to feature aluminum material for framing, enamel painting, and bread leaf styling.

Refurbished 1947 Westcraft Sequoia 28 Basics
Listed for auction via Bring a Trailer, the camper in question today spent around 30 years in a private collection before being procured by the seller as a project RV back in 2021. Taking three years in total, the refurbishment covers both inside and out.
After being stripped to bare aluminum and then refinished in a custom blue and silver body coat, the exterior features include a custom rear bumper with hitch receiver, refinished dark blue wheels, load-range E 225/75R15 National Road Max tires, refreshed axles, and refurbished drum brakes. You’ll also notice a tongue platform in the back that was fabricated for holding a pair of 40-pound propane tanks and a mini-split condenser unit. Like classic Sequoias, this example features the signature 10 clerestory windows below the roof.

It’s What’s on the Inside That Counts
If the outside draws you to the vehicle, the interior will ensure you’ll never want to leave. Also stripped for a full refurbishment with updated wiring and plumbing, the inside was given spray foam insulation and sub-floor material with LVF vinyl flooring on top. Matching the new Russian birch wood paneling finished in pecan stain and Matrix clear coat, the cabinetry was constructed to match. This was designed to replicate the original while still utilizing the actual hardware from the original model.
The seller reupholstered a period-correct 1947 sleeper couch in red Relicate leather that’s been distressed to give off the appearance of age but included a custom memory foam mattress underneath. The red upholstery was also used for two chairs in the front lounge.
Sporting the aforementioned cabinetry, the kitchen comes with mirrored stainless steel countertops, a Kraus sink, a Bertazzonni four-burner gas stove, a Nostalgia Retrowave microwave, and vintage-looking appliances from Smeg like a refrigerator, coffee maker, and toaster.
Other features include a pull-out table, Buster + Punch electrical outlets and switches, a Mitsubishi mini-split AC unit, and wood blinds. It’s important to note that the vintage glassware and barware depicted in the photos are for staging only and don’t come with the trailer.
