What was once reserved for the World’s Fair in the 19th and 20th centuries has been supplanted by the annual CES exposition in Las Vegas. Easily the most exciting tech event each year, this industry trade show is a place where every major brand and even a few newcomers aim to shock the world with the next greatest thing they’ve been working on. And at tech makes its way into the automobile world, we’ve started to see some crossover every once in a while too.

Among the auto brands involved in the 2025 show is Airstream, known for its aluminum campers. This year, it’s unveiled arguably the most luxurious package for its flagship Flying Cloud trailer, equipped with splashes of black and some audio upgrades. Let’s take a look…

A Brief History of Airstream

Airstream has been operating since the late 1920s when Wally Byam made wooden camping trailers from his backyard in Los Angeles, and also sold how-to kits for customers looking to make their own. Less than a decade in, Byam pivoted to the iconic aluminum models that his brand would become synonymous with. And today, there are many companies that strive for that same emotional resonance — although few ever come close.

Airstream Flying Cloud Midnight Flamingo Basics

Available as an optional upgrade for the 25FB and 27FB floor plan models of the Flying Cloud, the interestingly named Midnight Flamingo variant is a hitchable trailer in Airstream’s emblematic aluminum shell but this time rolling with some black accents along the outside and even on the inside. Inspired by blacked-out automobiles, the Midnight Flamingo’s black elements also provide function as they aim to protect the camper from road debris for more adventurous trips.

Replacing the standard chrome trim, the black trim also runs along the horizontal center line of the trailer, while a black rub rail and blackout aluminum wheels have also been added. There are also black non-slip protective covers on the bumper storage compartment in the rear.

The “Midnight” aesthetic also extends to the badging, which is typically white on the Flying Cloud. There’s also a second badge featuring a silver flamingo in front of a black textured background. The Sunbrella fabric awnings on the streetside and rear also feature an embroidered flamingo emblem on top of the charcoal tweed fabric.

More Than Meets the Eye

For venturing off the grid, the Midnight Flamingo trailer also features some “boondocking functionality” like a factory-installed 3-inch lift kit for improved ground clearance, a 200Ah lithium battery bank, and 300W of solar panels on the roof.

Showing up in other Airstream upgrade packages, a rear hatch allows you access to the interior while also letting you enjoy nature while dining or hanging out inside, especially after rolling down the retractable screen.

The interior shares the blacked-out inspiration of the exterior with some new decor and textures. This includes woven charcoal fabric on the seating, charcoal bedspread for the bedroom, blackout curtains around the panoramic windows, black faucets and hardware in the kitchen and bathroom, and black light fixtures.

Being a CES debut, the new trailer wouldn’t be complete without some new tech. As such, the Midnight Flamingo delivers premium audio with a Klipsch stereo system with Bluetooth connectivity for streaming from your devices. The assortment includes four brass cone speakers along the roof compartments, which is a serious upgrade from the standard Flying Cloud speakers.
