A couple of months ago, Unimatic revealed a one-off edition of the U4S Modello Quattro diving watch with Messena LAB for a charity auction. Inspired by the legend of Swiss folk hero William Tell, the timepiece sported a dial that was hand-engraved by artist King Nerd and also the brand’s first-ever bronze case.
Now, the Italian watchmaker has teamed up once more with Messena LAB on another pair of U4S watches, bringing back the bronze case material, which develops a natural patina, and making it available to purchase for the first time. This time around, the pieces are inspired by the tales of 19th-century adventure novelist Jules Verne who penned Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas.
The nods are especially prevalent in the reference U4S-BRZ-MLL, which features a tapisserie pattern on the olive green dial that, when paired with the bronze case and bezel, looks like a submarine porthole. Meanwhile, the U4S-BRZ-ML (notice the singular “L”) sports a matte textured olive dial, which is the biggest difference between the two models. Both of them run on Sellita caliber SW200-1 movements.
Another difference is the edition number and price tag. Priced at $995 and $895, respectively, the MLL is limited to just 99 pieces while the ML is limited to 400. You can purchase them through Messena LAB’s website.
