In the handful of years that it has existed, Italian microbrand UNIMATIC has quickly established itself as one of the most exciting young brands in the watch space, with an easily-identifiable brand identity cultivated around its refreshingly minimalist designs. As a result, other brands have been tripping over each other to collaborate with the hot Italian outfit, and the latest is luxury retailer extraordinaire MR PORTER.
MR PORTER and UNIMATIC have come together for a colorful take on the latter’s Model One watch. Referred to as the Modello Uno by UNIMATIC, the watch is the brand’s flagship: a stripped-down dive watch featuring a sterile bezel, a simple dial layout, and a large protected crown. Under the watchful eye of MR PORTER, the timepiece has simultaneously been further simplified while also becoming more visually striking. How does that work? Well, all indices have been removed from the dial for a cleaner look, and all lume and text has been changed from beige to stark white. The case and crown have also been blacked out, making for one stealthy take on the diver.
But that stealthiness ends with the case, as MR PORTER cranks up the summertime fun on the watch’s strap. In place of UNIMATIC’s usual black nylon strap, these limited-edition pieces are blessed with custom TPU straps in bright pastel colors. There are three shades available, all coming from official Pantone colors. The three are “Double Cream,” “Miami Pink,” and our favorite, and the cheekily-named “Almost Tiffany” blue that matches Pantone 3242 C. Rounding out the watches’ features are a sapphire crystal, 300m water resistance, and a Swiss-made Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement.
Available now from MR PORTER, each of the UNIMATIC x MR PORTER Model One watches is priced at $1,315.
