Plenty of brands trade on military “heritage” – all across the gear space. Marathon, on the other hand, still ships watches to actual militaries, with contract markings engraved right into the caseback. Watches of Espionage, meanwhile, has become required viewing around here, a media platform (and rabbit hole of a YouTube channel) run by an anonymous former CIA Case Officer who documents what operators and intelligence officers really have strapped to their wrists.
Now two of the most legitimate names in tool watches have joined forces on a first for both sides, the Marathon x W.O.E. Titanium SAR.
Breaking Marathon’s Steel Streak
Since the original SAR was developed for the Royal Canadian Air Force’s elite Search and Rescue Technicians in 2001, every variant in the family (GSAR, TSAR, OSAR) has worn stainless steel. This collab ends that stainless run with Marathon’s first-ever titanium case, cut from grade 5 alloy that masks scratches over time thanks to a self-healing oxide layer.
The proportions stay pure SAR, with a 39mm case under a 41mm gear-tooth bezel, 14mm of thickness, 300 meters of water resistance, and a flat sapphire crystal.
Spot the Tradecraft
Seeing that it’s W.O.E., we expected a few fun Easter eggs, and this collab delivered. The first four minutes of the track are printed in red, referencing the four-minute window CIA case officers use for clandestine source meetings, and a small red WOE signature sits above 6 o’clock.
The Spearhead insignia, a symbol tracing back to the WWII-era OSS that preceded the CIA, is engraved on the crown and caseback alongside full mil-spec nomenclature and the brand’s “Use Your Tools” motto.
The Upgrade We Care Most About
Where the standard GSAR runs Sellita’s SW200-1 with a 41-hour reserve, this one gets the upgraded SW200-2B, a true no-date caliber with zero ghost crown position and a 65-hour power reserve.
The dial gets a matching bump, trading tritium tubes for applied indices filled with an improved MaraGlo compound that Marathon says matches Super-LumiNova X2 for brightness while outlasting it.
