Hamilton’s offerings make up some of the best value propositions in the entire watch industry, especially when accounting for the formerly-American brand’s rich history. And the latest Hammy to hit the scene continues that tradition as one of the best chronographs on the market around the $2K mark.
Hamilton has introduced the Khaki Pilot Pioneer Mechanical Chronograph as the latest edition to its military heritage-inspired line of aviator watches. Specifically, the piece draws inspiration in both form and function from the watches the company issued to Britain’s Royal Air Force back in the 1970s. Housed inside the watch’s curvy stainless steel case is Hamilton’s exclusive hand-wound H-51-Si chronograph movement, which boasts a 60-hour power reserve and a robustly anti-magnetic silicon balance spring.
Hamilton made sure to include a number of style cues in the design that recall the Pilot Pioneer Chrono’s five-decade-old forbearers. The handset is white lacquered, like on the old RAF models, the case is asymmetrical with a right-side bulge to protect the crown, and the crystal is box-shaped (though now it’s an AR-coated sapphire rather than plastic). And like most of Hamilton’s other vintage military-inspired pieces, the lume on this pilot’s watch is done in vintage radium-style Super-LumiNova.
Sold on a dark brown leather strap and sporting a solid 100m of water resistance, Hamilton’s Khaki Pilot Pioneer Mechanical Chronograph will be available soon on the brand’s website for $2,045.
