We talk a lot about watches made for military personnel, but few brands are given the kind of trust and reliance that Luminox has been given, and by some of the most highly skilled individuals in the world. Since its partnership with the United States Navy SEALs over 30 years ago, the watchmaker has also earned the respect of rescue teams and elite adventurers alike.

Among its most popular models is the MIL-SPEC 3350 Series, built from the ground-up in order to meet military specifications. It’s now been given a new tactical colorway, and it might be our favorite iteration so far.

As Tough As It Gets

When we say Luminox watches are tough, we’re not exaggerating. Selected by the SEALs after rigorous testing, Luminox models’ combination of accuracy, nighttime visibility, and diving capability allowed them to soar past the older, more seasoned brands at the time in 1992, and they’ve only gotten better since.

In terms of the MIL-SPEC 3350 lineup, these timepieces are held to the technical specifications set by the United States Department of Defense (MIL-PRF-46374G TYPE III CLASS 1) to ensure proper sourcing, fabrication, material, quality, and supply.

Stretching 46mm across, the case is made of CARBONOX™+, a carbon composite material that has an incredible strength-to-weight ratio, while also being corrosion-resistant. This is only enhanced more by the grade 2 titanium bezel around it, featuring a unidirectional 60-minute diving scale. If that’s not enough, you also get a whopping 300m of water resistance for ultra-deep dives.

Inside the case is a military-grade ETA F06.412 quartz movement known for its reliability and durability in the field. It’s bolstered with HeavyDrive for shock resistance and PreciDrive for improved precision.

A New Color

Debuting a few years back, the MIL-SPEC 3350 gets a new colorway (ref. 3355) with a deep blue dial and yellow accents on the second hand a 24-hour scale for visibility. Versatile and handsome on the wrist, this color combination also pays homage to the official insignia of the U.S. Department of Defense. Affixed to the case is a tough blue rubber strap with CARBONOX+ buckle.

Of course, this wouldn’t be a Luminox release without its signature LLT (Luminox Light Technology) lume, a self-powered illumination system that ensures visibility for up to 25 years. It’s been applied to the hour and minute hands, hour markers, and bezel pip. Moreover, the second hand tip has been given Super-LumiNova.
