For those who weren’t aware, there is far more to the city of Anaheim than baseball and Disneyland. While those are a pair of West Coast staples in their own right, it’s hard to imagine what Southern California would be without Vans, the iconic skateboarding brand that virtually needs no introduction. Back in 1992, skaters took it upon themselves to create a now-legendary shoe by merely cutting the tops off of their high-top Vans sneakers with a pair of scissors and duct-taping their creation. Today, Vans is paying homage to the Half Cab’s 30th trip around the sun with a special anniversary version of the cult-classic shoe — no scissors required.
As the band of shoemakers has been doing for the past decade, they’ve revamped the classic sneaker for the sake of performance and wearability. Thanks to Vans’ patented POPCUSH insoles and newly-founded SickStick gum rubber, skaters can cruise around as long as they see fit as a result of the shoes’ bolstered footbed and ideal feel. On top of that, they’ve maxed out the Half Cab’s durability in its entirety by raising the sidewalls, strengthening its internal tongue straps, and making great use of their signature DURACAP reinforced materials. For an added touch, Vans has tacked on a checkerboard flag on the heel tab and “Skateboarding” below the brand’s emblematic tag branding, raising no questions as to what these are intended for. Be that as it may, whether you’re a skater or sneakerhead, this new set of tribute kicks is well worth your time.
The Skate Half Cap ’92s are currently available in both Taupe and Dress Blue colorways for $75 through Vans’ website and retailers.
