Oakley has been on a tear lately and if it feels like the brand has been living in its own archives lately, it’s not just you. The brand’s MUZM program (pronounced “museum”) has spent the last two years resurrecting the Eyeshade, the Scar, and the Mars to absolute rabid reception. All of this while the Eye Jacket has gone full renaissance into one of the most hyped frames in eyewear. And now it’s the wilder one’s turn, because Oakley just announced the return of the MUZM Straight Jacket 99.

A Wraparound With a Rap Sheet
The original Straight Jacket landed in 1996 as part of Oakley’s Jacket family, which is the brand’s concept of eyewear that fits your face the way apparel fits your body. Three years later, Oakley redesigned the frame with sharper, more aggressive lines, and that second-generation shape is where the “99” here comes from.

That version went on to become the one people remember. It bled out of sport and into movies, TV, and street culture during Oakley’s turn-of-the-millennium fever dream. And, naturally, collectors have been hoarding clean examples ever since.

Pulled From the Vault, Not Reimagined
And in case you weren’t familiar, Blood Skull and Rootbeer aren’t new inventions. There were actual colorways on the original ‘99 frame, now revived as Blood Skull with Prizm Black lenses and Matte Rootbeer with Prizm Tungsten.

The third option, Prototype, is a matte clear frame with Prizm Grey glass that shows off the sculpted O-Matter chassis in raw form. All three keep the signature wrap silhouette intact while swapping the vintage optics for modern Prizm tech.

Third Drop’s the Charm
Oakley tested these waters back in April 2025, when the first MUZM Straight Jacket 99 dropped in a silver flame getup for the brand’s 50th anniversary and promptly sold out (pairs now trade well north of retail). The brand followed up with an Undefeated collab last fall as well.
But this is the first revival that goes period-correct, and for the old heads who wore these the first time around, we can’t wait to get our hands on a pair.
