Back in 2018, Nike launched the ISPA lineup (which stands for Improvise, Scavenge, Protect, and Adapt) with the goal of creating gear that leans more into that futuristic techwear vibe (even more than the already gorp-friendly ACG sublabel). With drops like the inflatable jacket and split-toe sneakers, it was clear that ISPA’s philosophy was centered around multi-functional designs that pushed the boundaries of what’s expected. And now they’re back with the Nike ISPA Metamorph Poncho, a poncho that turns into a tent.

A Tent You Can Wear
This hybrid piece of gear starts out as a (very) oversized waterproof poncho with an adjustable hood and straps to customize the fit, with a removable pack/vent cover on the back that holds the collapsible poles and the poncho itself when it’s time to transform it into a tent. Nike has included instructions on how to do this printed on the pack, but it looks like it’s pretty simple when you take a look at the images here. There’s also this neat snowflake pattern on the mesh lining that peeks through the shell while it’s a poncho, and opens up once it’s a tent.

The First of Its Kind
There’s only one colorway (“Photon Dust/Iron Grey/Dark Stucco”) and one size available, too, which is described as a standard fit that’s “designed to feel relaxed through the body for easy layering” (the single size is a bit of a letdown, but ponchos/rain jackets aren’t really supposed to be form-fitting I guess). Besides the super futuristic look and utility here, what’s also super impressive is that this hybrid design looks to be an industry-first because there hasn’t been a poncho that comes equipped with the gear (or design) to actually turn into a tent.

Materials and Sustainability
This piece is made of cotton and thin layers of nylon, opting to use sustainable materials as part of Nike’s Move to Zero journey initiative with the goal of reaching zero carbon and zero waste down the line. The nylon is made using stuff like recycled carpet and used fish nets, and in the near future (2025), Nike is focused on achieving 0.5M tons less of greenhouse gas emissions, 100% waste diverted from landfills (with at least 80% of it recycled back into Nike gear), and a 25% reduction of fresh water usage per kilogram in its garment manufacturing process.
The Details
Material: Cotton and nylon

Pricing and Availability
The Nike ISPA Metamorph Poncho is available now through Nike for a pretty hefty $600, but you’re sort of getting two products, so that’s a plus. Again, at the time of writing, there’s only one size and one colorway available.
