Arc’teryx Toughened Up Its Kragg Slip-On Into a Wool-Knit Winter Boot

Nothing kills the post-climb glow faster than having to literally peel off a pair of tight rock shoes and stuff your cold toes into a pair of even colder sneakers. Arc’teryx built a whole shoe family attacking this exact problem, and we’ve watched the pull-on Kragg evolve from crag slipper into full-blown travel favorite over the past two years. Now the lineup’s mid-height model gets its own round of upgrades, re-emerging as the warmer, better-fitting Kragg Mid.

Wool Takes Over Winter Duty

Since releasing in late 2024, cold-weather Kragg duty has belonged to the Kragg Insulated. This model originally leaned on PrimaLoft Gold fill to keep belay sessions bearable. But the new Kragg Mid takes over that slot with a completely different strategy.

Rather than stuffing synthetic insulation into the upper, Arc’teryx knit the whole thing from its Betaspun wool blend. This lets the fiber itself handle the warmth while still staying breathable on the hike in. The brand claims it’s both warmer and better fitting than before, with added toe room and a more locked-down midfoot.

The pull-on formula that made this family famous is still in full force. A stretchy collar and finger tab mean no laces, which means no frozen fingers fumbling at the trailhead.

Five-Millimeter Lugs for the Frozen Approach

The Vibram Megagrip outsole runs 5mm lugs tuned for rock and snow, which is more than double the 2mm bite on the low-top Kragg we covered back in February.

A molded rubber toe bumper guards against trail shrapnel, while the mid-height collar seals out the slush. A PU drop-in midsole handles the cushioning over a 24mm-to-17mm stack.

All told, each shoe weighs in at 14oz, and Arc’teryx pitches it as an approach hiker, belay shoe, and camp slipper in one. That’s a lot of hats for a knit bootie, but the Kragg has made a habit of overdelivering.
