Kindred Goes All-Black Everything with the Stealthy Bronco Black ICE Restomod

I’m always hit with a blast of nostalgia whenever I spot a Ford Bronco out in the wild. If you ask me, it’s one of the vehicles most synonymous with retro Americana as I remember it, whether it’s the originals from the ‘60s or from that new wave of reissues they launched a couple of years ago. However, what Broncos have never really been for me are modern, and that’s a good thing… or so I thought.

Kindred Motorworks has made it their business to restomod classic Broncos (among other American rides), and many of them have been fairly modernized. However, the latest Black ICE edition is arguably their most modern-looking yet. Oh yeah, and it’s their first-ever limited-edition model.

Back in Black

Based on the Trail Edition restomod already in Kindred’s lineup, the Black ICE edition is a murdered-out version of the off-road-ready Bronco, which the Bay Area-based firm built using the first-gen vehicles from 1966 to 1975. Limited to just 5 examples, this all-black version is as stealthy as they come and almost a counterpoint to the fun, frolicking Broncos of yore.

Built for adventure, the vehicle gets the aforementioned glossy black paint, a set of 18-inch Method forged aluminum wheels and hubcaps in black, and special-edition black badging. The interior continues the trend with black-colored wood trim.

The Rest of the Specs

In terms of what’s under the hood, we have the same 5.0L Coyote V8 engine that’s under the standard Trail Edition, along with a 10-speed automatic transmission, capable of 460hp. Other modifications from the stock Bronco allow this thing to be quite adventurous (that is, if you want to take a $200,000+ vehicle off-roading), including an Atlas 2 transfer case, a Dana 44 front differential with Chromoly axles, a Ford 9” rear differential with 35 Spline Extreme Duty rear axles, BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires, and plenty of other upgrades.

Pricing & Availability

While the standard Trail Edition Bronco starts at $199,000, the Black ICE Edition is bumped up to $214,000, presumably because of the scarcity of the edition size. Again, this vehicle is limited to just 5 examples, with pre-orders opening up on Black Friday, November 29 at 8 am Eastern. Deliveries are headed to buyers in either Q1 or Q2 of 2025. Head over to Kindred Motorworks to learn more.
