Headquartered out of Italy, Alpinestars has been producing world-class protective motorcycle gear for the last 60 years. And while the Asolo outfit has long offered neck-to-toe protection for road racers, making everything from boots to gloves to riding jackets to spine protectors to suits, it has never produced a full-face sportbike helmet — though it has crafted some fantastic MX lids. However, after spending the last decade developing its first-ever road racing model, the company has now fully revealed its inaugural full-face brain bucket with the all-new Alpinestars Supertech R10 Helmet.

Homologated to ECE 22.06, DOT, and FIM standards, the Alpinestars Supertech R10 Helmet is unequivocally one of the most advanced moto lids on earth, having been designed for use by MotoGP and WSBK riders — who have assisted in the development of the S-R10 — before finally now being made available to the public. Designed around five key guiding principles — protection, ventilation, weight, vision, and aerodynamics — the Supertech R10 features a state-of-the-art multi-layer composite shell structure that’s been bonded with an advanced epoxy resin in order to achieve a wildly impressive strength-to-weight ratio. This structure features a base aramid fiber layer set beneath a nylon and fiberglass layer, followed by another layer of UD carbon composite and then finally a high-density 3K carbon outermost layer — all set over a multi-density EPS material liner that boasts a special patented coating that helps to minimize rotational accelerations upon impact (not unlike how the MIPS system functions).

Mounted using the same patented release system found on Astars’ SM10 motocross lid, the S-R10 features separate Race and Road spoilers that can be swapped out depending on where the moto helmet is being used — with the race spoiler offering a more drastic aero effect. On top of an ultra-aerodynamic wind tunnel-shaped shell with a wildly impressive drag coefficient, the SR10 also benefits from side, rear-mounted lateral winglets that assist in improving stability and overall aerodynamics, as well as visor-mounted “turbulators” that further enhance aerodynamic efficiency. The lid is also equipped with an impressive 220° of lateral vision and 57° of vertical viewing. Hydration-ready/compatible, the S-R10 also comes loaded with a whopping 11 intake and exhaust ventilation ports, a quick-release shield mechanism with alloy construction levers, an emergency quick-release cheek-pad system for first responders, a varying-density optical class 1 face shield that sports a Pinlock 120XLT, and a reinforced chin bar that’s been designed to mitigate collarbone injuries in the event of the helmet making contact with the body.

Produced in half a dozen different sizes available across four shell sizes, the Alpinestars Supertech R10 Helmet will initially be offered in a limited run of individually-numbered Launch Edition lids that sport a special exposed carbon colorway with red accents. Restricted to just 200 units worldwide, the Supertech R10 Launch Edition Helmet will be available for order starting at 6pm CET on July 10, 2023. Pricing for the regular and Launch Edition helmets have yet to be revealed.
