Range Rover Finally Goes Electric With More Torque Than Any Model in Its 56-Year History

Range Rover fans will probably remember that the brand opened the waitlist for its first EV all the way back in December of 2023. And, over the ensuing years, we were basically told to wait patiently while the launch date slid from 2024 to 2025 to “will let you know when it’s ready.”

Now, nearly three years later, and just weeks after the brand shocked us all with the fastback GT, the wait appears to finally be over. Order books are now open for the first ever Range Rover Electric.

Range Rover First, Electric Second

While sister brand Jaguar lit its entire identity on fire for the EV era, Range Rover hasn’t really changed anything. The silhouette carries over untouched, with only an aero-optimized grille, new wheels, and a more tailored underbody to accommodate the EV platform.

The Most Torque in 56 Years

Under that familiar body sit twin 260kW permanent-magnet motors churning out 542 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. That torque figure here is a pretty big deal, because no Range Rover in history, V8s included, has ever produced more.

And the thing hits 60 mph from a standstill in just 4.3 seconds. Feeding it all is a double-stacked 118.5kWh battery running an 800V architecture, good for an EPA-estimated 333 miles and a 10 to 80 percent charge in about 22 minutes. Stateside buyers also get built-in NACS, so the Tesla Supercharger network is fair game.

It Still Does Range Rover Things

Thankfully, none of that electrification appears to have come at the expense of capability. The Electric Range still wades through 35.4 inches of water, tows 5,511 pounds, and can climb a 45-degree slope using a new single-pedal mode.

There’s also a traction system that adjusts motor speed within 50 milliseconds, which Range Rover adds, is roughly 100 times faster than a combustion setup can react. Add over 300 patent applications, the most ever filed for a single JLR vehicle, and the continuous delays start to make a bit more sense.
