As they make a big shift towards a fully-electric range by 2030, Volvo continues to innovate and level up their game. The Swedish marque debuted its Cross Country series in 1997 with a lifted version of its V70 XC and has since tapped its various nameplates for this off-road treatment. Now, they’ve done it again with a more ruggedized version of their flagship EX30 SUV.

Volvo EX30 Cross Country Basics
A more compact version of its three-row EX90 electric SUV, the EX30 is inherently a better option for adventuring due to how compact it is. But now with the Cross Country variant, drivers can go from town to wilderness with ease. Volvo raised the vehicle off the ground, gave it all-wheel drive for handling both snow and mud, and employed larger wheels. There’s even an option for 18-inch all-terrain tires.
While most performance specs haven’t been officially revealed, we can assume the EX30 Cross Country is based on the same powertrain as the standard EX30. This means either the Single Motor Extended Range with 275 miles between charges, 268hp, and 253lb.ft of torque, OR the Twin Motor Performance with 265 miles of electric range, 422hp, 400lb.ft of torque, and a 0-to-60 time of 3.4 seconds. However, nothing has been confirmed as of yet. We do know, however, that the vehicle can charge from 10 to 80% in just 26 minutes.
Looks-wise, we have a front shield and boot lid with a special dark color and topographic artwork of Arctic Sweden’s Kebnekaise mountain range in front. Giving it a more rugged look, the wheel arch extensions, front skid plates, and rear skid plates are now chunkier.

On the Inside
The interior carries over most of the popular features of the standard EX30, including the large storage compartments in the doors thanks to Volvo removing the speakers and utilizing the dashboard soundbar for audio instead. There’s also a “versatile central storage tunnel” between the driver and the passenger that can double as a cup holder or stored away if you want to use this space for storage instead. Likewise, the glove compartment is now underneath this center console for easier access for the driver.
In the rear, passengers also get a large storage option, slid out from under the center console “tunnel.” This can be easily used as a trash can since it’s removable and washable. Like always, the vehicle is built with Google compatibility.

As Always, Built with Safety in Mind
If nothing else, Volvo has always been synonymous with safety, which is the case with this vehicle as well. According to the brand, “We have applied our high standards of protective safety should you need it, but aim to help prevent you getting into a collision in the first place with some clever tech.” This includes a driver monitoring sensor that nudges you if it senses you’re tired or distracted. There’s also braking and steering support to help you avoid collisions with both other vehicles and pedestrians.
The Cross Country Experience
Owners of the EX30 Cross Country can also access Volvo’s new Cross Country Experience, with “tangible benefits that will help you to embrace your inner explorer even more.” Essentially, you’ll get discounts on things like an accessories package that features a load carrier, roof basket, 18-inch all-terrain tires, and mudflaps. More offers will be announced in the future.
