The story of Alpina is a sad one to say the least. When BMW acquired Alpina in 2022, it bought the name, not the family that spent over five decades making that name mean something.
So the Bovensiepens, sons of founder Burkard, set up shop under their own surname in the very same Buchloe factory. Their first car was a Zagato-bodied M4. And their second is this, the 05 GT, and it’s the closest thing to an old-school Alpina you can buy that legally isn’t allowed to be one.

Penned by the Man Behind the McLaren P1
Bovensiepen didn’t just fiddle with the suspension and call it a day. It handed the M5 Touring to Frank Stephenson, the designer responsible for the original BMW X5, the reborn Mini, the Ferrari F430, and yes, the McLaren P1.

The result is everything you’d hope for. There’s a laser-cut stainless grille, reshaped bumpers, and a wraparound design line that runs the length of the lower body. It rolls on 21-inch forged wheels and breathes through a titanium Akrapovič quad-exhaust that shaves about 17 pounds off the stock setup.

Now, About That Power Figure
The M5 Touring already shows up with a hybridized 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 making roughly 718 horsepower, which is a pretty absurd number for something with a cargo area. Bovensiepen looked at that and decided that it wasn’t absurd enough.

A revised intake, that freer-flowing Akrapovič system, and new software push output to 790 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough to fling all 5,632 pounds of luxury wagon to 62 mph in under 3.6 seconds, on its way to a 190-mph top speed.

A Cabin You Can Spec Into Oblivion
Open the door and every car gets a numbered plaque, which makes sense for the occasion. From there the interior is swimming in Lavalina leather, a barrel-dyed cowhide that Bovensiepen sources from a handful of farms across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy.

There’s plenty more to ooh and awe over here including a hand-finished steering wheel, milled aluminum paddles, Alcantara trunk linings, embossed headrests, custom embroidery, and your pick of seemingly any leather and stitching color.
