There’s no shortage of Porsche tuners and restoration firms in the world but when one of these companies delivers a build that catches our eye, we have to talk about it.
Out of Hungary, KAMManufaktur, who’s known for its carbon fiber 912 restomods, has not delivered a beautiful new version of the 912 Targa, and you can actually purchase one.
A Budget 911
Debuting for the 1965 production year, the Porsche 912 was an entry-level option for the increasingly popular 911 sports car. In its mere five-year production run, the 912 became a desirable copycat of the German marque’s flagship until it was replaced by the 914 for 1970 — although the 912 returned for a single year in the ‘70s during a gap between the 914 and its follow-up, the 924.
During the 912’s run, it saw a whopping 32,000 examples come off the line with 2,500 of those being of the Targa variant — Porsche’s proprietary semi-convertible body style.
KAMM 912c Targa
While later models of the 912 Targa replaced the transparent plastic rear window with a hard glass fixed version, KAMM has chosen the soft-window version for its launch build. Restoring a 1968 model, the firm painted over its proprietary Semi-Carbon bodywork with a Tangerine exterior coat. Meanwhile, the interior is shown with tobacco leather details around Porsche Pasha inserts on the seats and panels, along with a high-end radio system.
KAMM has also updated to a close-ratio, short-shift gearstick to go along with a ZF limited-slip differential and Porsche racing clutch. The shorter gearstick helps with better precision and can be optioned for one of three gear patterns.
Rounding out the look are KAMM’s aluminum steel-lookalike wheels and carbon roof rack, along with Cibie spotlights. For this one-off launch model, the brand has also made a matching surfboard in the Tangerine color.
Under the hood, KAMM upgraded the 1.6-liter engine of the original 912 for a 2.0-liter flat-four with custom intake and exhaust primaries, delivering 185hp at 6,500rpm — up from the 102hp of the 1968 model. You can specify your exhaust in either quiet or full-noise.
