Eccentrica Rips the Roof Off Its Re-Engineered V12 Lamborghini Diablo Restomod

Let’s be clear about what the original Diablo for a second. Nobody ever wanted one because it was a sensible vehicle. It was a 485-horsepower, rear-drive V12 supercar with no power steering until 1993, and no ABS until 1999. Lamborghini basically handed you the keys and wished you luck. And somehow that’s exactly what made it a legend.

San Marino’s Eccentrica has spent the past few years re-engineering that exact car, starting with its 19-unit coupe in 2023. Now comes the second act, and it’s the one we’d take: the Eccentrica V12 Roadster.

Re-Engineered by Lamborghini Royalty

This isn’t some chop-shop targa job. Eccentrica’s technical team is led by Maurizio Reggiani, the former Lamborghini CTO behind the Murciélago, Gallardo, Aventador, and Huracán, with Milan design studio Borromeo De Silva penning the body.

Every donor Diablo gets torn down and rebuilt with over 3,500 bespoke components. The new carbon fiber bodywork rides on a widened track, and Eccentrica ran a dedicated aero study to make sure deleting the roof wouldn’t scramble the airflow around the open cabin.

The Numbers Behind the Noise

The original 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V12 has been upgraded with some minor tweaks including a recalibrated ECU, better thermal management, and optimized airflow. This new setup bumps output from the original 485 horsepower to 550 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque.

That’s good for 62 mph in 3.8 seconds and a 208-mph top speed, six ticks past the original’s 202. And every one of those miles per hour gets rowed through a close-ratio, gated 6-speed manual.

Keeping the Devil, Losing the Danger

Underneath, Eccentrica kept what made the Diablo feel alive. The steel spaceframe has been treated with carbon fiber reinforcement, and the suspension geometry has been redesigned around semi-active dampers. There’s also a set of massive Brembos to help handle stopping duties, and the steering stays properly hydraulic, because feel matters.

The cabin is where the tailoring happens. Connolly leather, Alcantara, anodized metal, and exposed carbon surround a white ball-topped shifter and a retro amber digital gauge cluster, and each of the 19 builds is spec’d one-on-one with its owner.
