Birthed from the U.S. Military’s need for capable, off-road reconnaissance vehicles during World War II, Jeep has luckily only evolved slightly with each new iteration since the 1940s. In 1986, the Civilian Jeep gave way to the Wrangler, which has been synonymous with the marque ever since. A precursor to the modern-day SUV, the Jeep brand has changed hands a few times over the years but hasn’t veered much from its seven-slotted grill design, which is arguably as famous as the vehicle itself. Now, Jeep has made a special-edition model of the 2025 Wrangler 4xe Willys in honor of those original 1941 military vehicles.

Willys and World War II
In 1941, Ohio-based Willys-Overland Motor Co. was commissioned by the U.S. military to produce what would be the first-ever Jeep (known as the Willys MB). And what’s even more interesting is that Willys won a bidding war between them, Ford, and Bantam Car Co. However, it was the Willys prototype that garnered attention from the military due to its ruggedness and off-road capability.
Following that, some 637,000 Jeeps were built for World War II alone. Today, the trail-rated Jeeps with utilitarian interiors are known as the Willys for how they take after the mil-spec original.

2025 Wrangler Willys 4xe Willys ‘41 Special Edition Basics
Taking after the Jeep ’41 Concept from back in 2022 and fused with the 2025 Wrangler 4xe base, the 2025 Wrangler 4xe Willys ‘41 Special Edition is not only a mouthful but a very cool take on the modern off-road Jeeps we know and love.
It comes loaded with retro features like the olive green exterior coat that evokes the original Willys MB, along with the Drab Blue-colored decals that look like the U.S. Army’s stencil markings mandated during the Second World War.
That same olive green coat on the exterior can be found on the 17-inch aluminum wheels (which ride on 33-inch all-terrain tires), as well as the fabric dashboard insert on the inside. Other interior features include the tan Heritage cloth seats and ‘41 shifter medallion. Roof options include a body-color hardtop, Sky One-touch powertop roof, and a tan-colored soft top.
