There has been a lot of noise lately in the camping trailer space — more specifically when it comes to trailers made specifically for being towed by electric vehicles.

One such company out of Detroit is building a new pop-up travel trailer with a futuristic aesthetic and focus on aerodynamics. The brand is Grounded RVs and its new Towable model looks like a hypersleep pod you’d use on a spaceship, designed to improve the driving efficiency and range of your EV, made even more possible by using strong and lightweight composite materials for the exterior. Fully expanding once parked, the unit’s ceiling raises to allow 6’5” of walkthrough and offers a 360-degree panoramic view.

As for the interior, the layout is modular and fully customizable right down to the furniture components, which include a queen-sized bed, pull-out table, bench seating, dry-flush toilet, and kitchen appliances. Powered by 1,500W of solar electricity, the electronics and appliances can be controlled remotely.

Only rendered images are available thus far, but we’re excited to see the finished product. You can reserve your trailer with a $100 refundable deposit on Grounded’s website now. Deliveries are expected to commence in January 2024.
