French race car driver Hervé Poulain and Marcel Mignot drove the BMW you see before you in the 1979 24 Hour race of Le Mans, earning second place in its class and six in the overall standings. Both a brush-stroke masterpiece and a speed demon, Andy Warhol’s BMW M1 Art Car one-of-a-kind.

Automobile photographer Stephan Bauer, who won Shootout 2018 by BMW Group Classic, selected this work of art at his dream subject. Bauer shot a series of photos to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the BMW M1 by Warhol, providing art and automobile fans a new perspective of the legendary vehicle. This M1 is part of the BMW Art Car Collection and is regarded as the main highlight of the series. The American pop art icon completed the project in under half an hour. Bauer captures the 470 horsepower M1 in a fresh way, juxtaposing the bright piece of art with the gray abandoned industrial structure.
