Alfa Romeo Spent Three Years Hand-Laying the Carbon on This Stealthy One-Off 33 Stradale

There’s certainly a bit of irony in a customer commissioning a one-off version of a car that’s already been built, and capped at 33 units worldwide. But when Stellantis (Alfa’s parent company) set up Bottegafuoriserie (the bespoke atelier serving Alfa Romeo and Maserati), this is exactly the client it was built to court. Now the division has delivered its first Alfa-badged commission, unveiled this week at the brand’s museum in Arese, the 33 Stradale Perla Nera.

Three Years, Zero Paint

An anonymous collector, who personally chose and legally registered the Perla Nera name (Italian for Black Pearl), decided that he wanted something special in his one-off commission, and asked Alfa Romeo for something no other 33 Stradale buyer did. He wanted no paint, and no exterior badging beyond the Alfa emblems. There was to be no color found on this car, whatsoever.

And that subtraction reportedly took around three years to complete. Every fiber was positioned by hand inside the mold so the weave itself becomes the design, and forms a V motif across the hood and a herringbone pattern running the full length of the roofline.

And because paint is heavy, removing it also shaved roughly 22 pounds off the car versus its 32 painted siblings.

A Cabin Cut to One Body

Inside, it’s Alcantara and exposed carbon as far as the eye can see, with Alfa’s signature cannelloni quilting reinterpreted across the seats alongside the door panels and sills. The seats themselves were redesigned around the owner’s physique through dedicated fitting sessions, essentially tailing the car to his build.

The rotary gear selector also wears the owner’s initials, while the black Alcantara luggage set carries the car’s 03/33 production number. And the Quadrifoglio and Autodelta emblems only reveal themselves once you’re inside.

Mechanically Untouched

Beneath all that weave sits standard 33 Stradale hardware, meaning a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 making over 630 horsepower, an 8-speed dual-clutch, and rear-wheel drive. It’s a setup that’s good for 207 mph and a sub-3-second run to 62.

The Perla Nera is the first project out of Bottega Alfa Romeo, and it’s a clear shot across the bow of Ferrari’s Tailor Made program.

Pricing & Availability

Alfa Romeo isn’t saying what this commission cost, though with the standard 33 Stradale starting north of $2 million and all 33 build slots long since claimed, the number is academic anyway. The Perla Nera will be on display at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese through October 18 before heading home to its owner.
