Though it was launched less-than-a-decade, Unimatic has quickly become one of the most beloved micro brands currently operating in the horological space. Thus far, the Italian brand has largely taken a quality-over-quantity approach, resulting in a fairly slow rollout of novel timepieces.

And this is a huge part of why its latest release is so surprising, as the company has just revealed its all new Tool Watch Collection which is made up of four new references.

The Basics

Designed to survive extreme climates and conditions and built to MIL-STD-810H standards, Unimatic’s new Tool Watch lineup is comprised of four watches in total, though is really more two watches that are both available in standard three-hand versions or four-hander GMT variants. Sporting the Italian microbrand’s signature minimalist design language, all four watches are also super affordably priced, with the most expensive one in the lineup coming in at under $600. All permanent editions (not limited editions), the new Tool Watches follow in the footsteps of the brand’s UT4-B reference and share its in-house-designed 360° protection system and 300 meters of water resistance. All four are also made in Italy.

Unimatic Modello Uno UT1

The latest addition to the Modello Uno series, the UT1 is a diver-style tool watch that’s constructed around a sandblasted 41.5mm 316 steel case with a 13.2mm thickness and a 49mm lug-to-lug. Sitting under a 2.5 mm-thick flat sapphire with an inner anti-reflective coating, the watch’s matte black dial sports printed Arabic numerals and Super-LumiNova C1 lumen glowing in bright green. The dial is encompassed via a rotating 120-click bezel with a matte black countdown insert. At the heart of the watch is a Japanese-made Seiko VH31 quartz movement

Unimatic Modello Uno UT1-GMT

Another addition to the Modello Uno range, the UT1-GMT is nearly identical to the UT1 above, though jettisons the normal UT1’s three-hand dial setup in favor of a GMT layout. Though it shares its case material and dimensions and much of its dial design, the GMT-spec UT1 comes fitted with a Swiss-made Ronda 515.24D quartz movement and features a date window at 6 o’clock and a GMT window at 12.

Unimatic Modello Quattro UT4

From Unimatic’s Modello Quattro Collection, we have the Modello Quattro. This watch is essential a carbon copy of the UT1, sharing its exact case, VH31 movement, and dial. The only real difference being that the UT4 trades the UT1’s rotating dive bezel for a fixed field watch style bezel.

Unimatic Modello Quattro UT4-GMT

While the UT4 is essentially identical to the UT1 save for its 120-click bezel, the same goes for the UT1-GMT and the UT4-GMT, as the two new timepiece are carbon copies of each other, only the UT4 lacks the diver’s rotating bezel and sports a fixed item. Everything else from the case to the dial to the movement are exactly alike.

What Makes Them So Special?

Pricing aside, no matter which of the four you pick, Unimatic’s new Tool Watch lineup looks absolutely stunning and is sure to please even the most opinionated collectors. At sub-$600 price points, all four watches also offer pretty stellar bang-for-your-buck considering the materials and the super-attractive well-balanced designs. Having gotten the opportunity to get hands-on with several of the micro brand’s existing watches, I can confidently say that if the build quality of Unimatic’s new Tool Watch references are anything like their predecessors, the craftsmanship on display will be top-notch. Additionally, their low price point is made all the more noteworthy by the fact that one of these timepieces is a GMT (a genre of watch that almost always comes at a fairly hefty premium).
