It seems that every watch brand is quickly learning that bigger isn’t a personality. TAG Heuer’s reminder came courtesy of the Glassbox, the domed-crystal Carrera that’s been in the spotlight since 2023 while its burlier, bezel-wearing sibling sat mostly untouched at a beefy 44mm.
With Formula 1 rolling into Madrid this weekend for the city’s first-ever Spanish Grand Prix (and TAG Heuer’s name on the race itself), the brand picked the perfect moment to overhaul that overlooked sibling: the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Sport.
Smaller in Every Direction That Matters
The case drops from 44mm to 42mm, lug-to-lug tightens from 49.8mm to 48.6mm, and thickness falls from a chunky 15.48mm to a far more livable 14.17mm.
The reworked bezel helps the cause too, trading the old full-ceramic setup for a slimmer steel cradle wrapped around a polished ceramic tachymeter insert.
And because this is a racing chronograph through and through, the pushers are shaped like engine pistons, and water resistance holds steady at a respectable 100m.
The Dial Reads Like a Stopwatch Now
TAG Heuer decided to ditch the applied baton hour markers entirely, swapping in polished Arabic numerals that count the minutes instead. The move turns the dial from a gentleman’s chronograph into more of an actual timing instrument, and we imagine the enthusiast crowd will have a lot to say about it.
The tricompax layout stays put, and the date now tucks neatly into the running seconds register at 6 o’clock rather than floating awkwardly on its own.
Four colorways span five references including a red-accented black opaline that leans hardest into the motorsport brief, sunray blue and green options with silver counters, and a classic silver panda.
The TH20-00 Keeps Its Job
Under the sapphire caseback sits the in-house Calibre TH20-00, an evolution of the Heuer 02 that powered the outgoing generation. Column wheel, vertical clutch, 28,800 vph, and a generous 80-hour power reserve.
The H-link steel bracelet got real attention though, gaining a stronger taper and a tool-free easy-link system for resizing at home.

The new Carrera Chronograph Sport is available now, priced at $6,850 on the steel bracelet. The lone leather-strap option, a blue dial on perforated brown calfskin, comes in at $6,650 but won’t land until October.
