Tudor Finally Gives Us a 39mm Black Bay GMT — Plus a Root Beer GMT

Tudor has made a habit of stealing the show at international watch trade shows in recent years, whether at Baselworld or Watches & Wonders, and we’re happy to report that the brand has kept its hot streak going at Watches & Wonders 2022 in Geneva by unveiling a highly-anticipated GMT.

Ever since Tudor unveiled the original 41mm Black Bay GMT in 2018, enthusiasts have been clamoring for the brand to craft a travel-time version of the smaller 39mm Black Bay Fifty-Eight. Well, that day is finally here, as Tudor has revealed the Black Bay Pro. While not technically a BB58, it shares a lot in common with Tudor’s vintage-style diver, most notably a case that measures just 39mm across. The watch features a fixed stainless steel 24-hour bezel, faded yellow monobloc luminous ceramic indices, snowflake hands with matching pale gold lume, and a pointed orange snowflake GMT hand. The overall look and color combination recalls the original Explorer II from sister brand Rolex, a collector favorite from the 1970s. Powering the watch is the same Manufacture Calibre MT5652 that powers the original BB GMT, giving the Black Bay Pro “true” GMT functionality, COSC certification, and a 70-hour power reserve.

The MT5652 is also found in a new version of the larger Black Bay GMT, the Black Bay GMT S&G. Standing for “steel & gold,” the new BBGMT offers up a two-tone case and optional bracelet in stainless steel and yellow gold, pairing the flashier style with a brown and black bi-color aluminum bezel insert. Again, Tudor recalls vintage Rolex here, as this version of the GMT seems destined to be called the “Tudor Root Beer” after Rolex’s own brown and two-tone GMT-Master. Tudor has gone all-in on two-tone styling for 2022, as the brand also introduced “S&G” models in its Black Bay Chrono and Black Bay 31/36/39/41 lines.

Both the Black Bay Pro and Black Bay GMT S&G are available on your choice of a Jacquard fabric strap, a hybrid rubber and leather strap, or a three-link rivet style bracelet, with the Black Bay Pro’s bracelet featuring the brand’s acclaimed “T-Fit” rapid-adjustment clasp. The Black Bay Pro starts at $3,675 on a strap, while the Black Bay GMT S&G’s pricing begins at $4,300.
