It’s no secret that vintage watches are all the rage right now, as our insatiable appetite for all things retro has successfully influenced the watch market. With this latest trend, watchmakers throughout the space have been releasing some incredible throwback timepieces. In a really cool collaboration to pay homage to a classic watch, online watch publication SJX Watches has teamed up with luxury Swiss watch brand Zenith to create the Chronomaster Revival “Poker Chip.”
The Chronomaster Revival “Poker Chip” serves as a modernized and illuminated tribute to the El Primero G383, which epitomized the busy design layout of chronograph watches during the ’60s and ’70s. Named after the G383’s poker-chip-like sectored layout in black, white, and gold, the “Poker Chip” reimagined the dial of the G383 to feature a dark grey rendering on top of matte black segments with green-glowing Super-LumiNova patterns on top. The result is a poker chip motif that is visible in both daylight and nighttime, this time with a more contemporary feel to it. To take its luminosity one step further, the “Poker Chip” comes with an additional fabric strap that’s impregnated with Super-LumiNova for maximum visibility at night. Keeping in line with its predecessor, the “Poker Chip” retains its 38mm El Primero case, although the folks at SJX and Zenith used micro-blasted titanium for its construction instead of stainless steel. Moreover, the case features a coating that increases its wear resistance while also protecting it from unsightly smudges.
The “Poker Chip” features a domed sapphire crystal as well as the original El Primero 400 movement for added rarity and a cheeky bit of irony from creating a watch with a modernized look yet retaining its original movement. With only 200 pieces made, the “Poker Chip” is quite limited and can be purchased on the SJX Watches website for $10,000.
