H. Moser & Cie is no stranger to inventive and outside-the-box designs without losing any of its trademarked elegance. In the past, the Swiss watchmaker has utilized the material Vantablack in a limited-to-50 version of the Swiss Alp timepiece back in 2021. And again this year at Watches and Wonders in Geneva, the brand unveiled an all-black Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Vantablack concept that almost entirely disappeared from all angles — save for the three hands.
Vantablack, which was developed nearly a decade ago in the United Kingdom, absorbs 99.965% of light instead of reflecting it outward. Since it breaks down upon contact, an all-Vantablack watch would be too delicate to use for practical purposes. However, for its latest Streamliner Tourbillon, Moser utilized the material on the dial only. What’s more, it’s surrounded by a 5N red gold case and integrated bracelet, making this the first non-steel release in the Streamliner series.
To keep the Vantablack intact, the gold indices are attached from behind and can disappear into the dial depending on the viewing angle. The 40mm case houses the manufacturer HMC 804 automatic tourbillon movement with a double hairspring and a 72-hour power reserve, which is visible at the six o’clock spot. A tourbillon theoretically increases precision by counteracting the gravity’s effect on the watch, but equipped in this Streamliner, the impressive movement is able to compete with the exceptional appearance of the timepiece itself.
As one would expect, the Streamliner Tourbillon Vantablack won’t come cheap. It retails for $119,900 and can be inquired about on H. Moser & Cie’s website. However, this looks to be the company’s first Vantablack watch that won’t be a limited release.
