These days, most brands are putting their best foot forward to be eco-conscious. Unfortunately, these efforts often come at the sacrifice of overall aesthetic. On the other hand, you have G-SHOCK, who continues to craft drool-worthy timepieces that nail the sustainability angle without sacrificing their iconic rugged look.
Following last year’s G5600BG-1 Recycled Resin in bespeckled black, the Casio sub-brand has dropped a sequel in beige while continuing the method of using old, discarded watches to help make its case and band. However, this new edition is more than just a follow-up but a timepiece that brings some more streetwear sensibility to the sustainable watch game, and just in time for Earth Day.

EARTH-CONSCIOUS ICON
Look, we’re not easily impressed by marketing buzzwords, but Casio’s approach here deserves genuine props. Instead of slapping “eco” on the box and calling it a day, they’re actually diverting manufacturing waste from landfills and turning it into wearable art.

HYPNOTIC SWIRLS
It’s not difficult to find a wearable watch in off-white or beige these days but the marbled texture of this new 5600 Recycled Resin is borderline hypnotic with its swirling cosmos of white and olive green flecks suspended in a creamy beige base. The G-SHOCK forums are already buzzing with nicknames, and we think that “cookies and cream” has a nice ring to it.
Because of the recycled method, each watch emerges from production with its own unique pattern distribution and individual look. Just like its black predecessor, Casio confirms no two pieces are identical.
While we can certainly appreciate its environmental credentials and unique aesthetics, we are curious to see how the off-white color ages over time. We can’t help but think how similar colored sneaker midsoles discolor and yellow over the years – an issue that hasn’t surfaced with its black brethren.

FAMILIAR FOUNDATION
Casio wisely chose their iconic 5600 series (a direct descendent of the original G-SHOCK 5000) for this sustainable experiment, and for good reason. Since its 1983 introduction, the square-cased digital watch has become the quintessential G-SHOCK and a perfect blank canvas for new iterations.
The familiar dimensions and layout remain unchanged, and you’re still getting G-SHOCK’s legendary shock resistance and a 200m water resistance rating. For streetwear enthusiasts who’ve already embraced the 5600 as a cultural staple, this beige variant offers a fresh option that stands out in a sea of predictable black G-SHOCKs.

POWERED BY LIGHT
Like other 5600s, this version incorporates Casio’s excellent Tough Solar technology, which efficiently harvests energy from virtually any light source. This feature not only eliminates the need for battery replacements (and the associated waste) but enhances the timepiece’s overall sustainability narrative.
