Christopher Ward Now Offers a 37mm Version of Its Beautiful Moonphase Watch

Earlier this year, Christopher Ward debuted its minimalist moonphase version of its popular C1 series. However, at 40.5mm in diameter, the C1 Moonphase could only ever act like a dress watch, begging for a smaller case. We get it though; this is a timepiece worth displaying in a big way on your wrist. However, for more practical purposes, the British watchmaker has now come out with a more wearable 37mm version.

A Modern Icon

Founded a couple of decades ago, Christopher Ward has made some meaningful contributions to the modern world of dive watches, blending vintage inspiration with its own assertive design language, just like it has with the C60 and C65 families. However, as capable and often funky as these divers have been, Christopher Ward also does some great work in the luxury sphere, especially with The Twelve range and the C1 Bel Canto, the latter of which shares the same watch family as the current moonphase release.

Christopher Ward C1 Moonphase 37mm Basics

If you’re into the starry dial of the original C1 Moonphase, you won’t be sacrificing anything with this new 37mm version. You still have one of the most unique, yet obvious moonphase executions on the market, with no numerals or indices on the deep blue, almost black aventurine dial — only a three-hand handset and a giant moon in the upper left corner.

Best of all, the Globolight depiction of the moon moves according to the current phase in the sky and is accurate for a whopping 128 years. Moonphase complications are notoriously inaccurate — and automatically propelled — but thanks to the in-house JJ04 perpetual module, you won’t have an issue here. On the other hand, the time-telling is due to the Sellita SW220-1 automatic movement.

A boxed sapphire crystal covers the dial and caseback, adding some dimension in the way of a refraction effect at the edge of the dial. But other than that, this thing is bare. Even the Light-Catcher stainless steel case is barely visible around the side. Lastly, two band options are available: a matching dark blue leather strap or a stainless steel bracelet.
