Baltic’s quick rise since 2017 has been an impressive one. Launching a very successful Kickstarter campaign just 8 years ago, the French watchmaker has become one of the key microbrands to watch.

Today, they celebrate their third year as the official timekeeper of the Tour Auto vintage car rally, launching a brand-new model called the Scalegraph, and we’ve got all the details…

A Step Beyond Collecting

Lots of people collect old cars, but few race them. However, back in 1992, motorsports enthusiast Patrick Peter realized that he wanted to combine collecting and racing. And so, his company Peter Auto revived the Tour Auto (née Tour de France Automobile) — a defunct auto race that ran from 1899 to 1986 — but this time focused on vintage vehicles. Today, Peter Auto hosts a handful of events each year, showcasing vehicles from the 1950s all the way through the ‘90s.

Tricompax Layout with a Bicompax Spirit

Partnering in the past with Tour Auto for special-edition watches, including the debut of the Tricompax in 2022, Baltic has now expanded its range once again with the appropriately-retro Scalegraph.

The triple-register chronograph is introduced with the Tour Auto Limited Edition, featuring an evocative baby blue-dial version. Around the dial is a slightly darker blue minute track with small lumed bulbs behind each hour marker. The aluminum bezel insert sports a tachymeter scale and goes even a step darker in the blue hue, completing the gradation of the watch.

At first glance, you might not notice the third register at the bottom of the dial, as it blends in with the satin texture of the background. However, this certainly provides the wearer with the utility of a tricompax. The left and right subdials match the blue dial with off-white colors. The “big eye” minutes subdial is redolent of old-school racing chronos of the ‘60s and ‘70s. Meanwhile, its red and blue accents call to mind liveries of vintage race cars.

An Upgraded Chronograph

While the dimensions of the Scalegraph are the same as the Tricompax, there are a few notable differences. The stainless steel case here is a 39.5mm across with a 14.1mm thickness, but boasts 100m of water resistance — something new for Baltic thanks to the screw-down crown and pushers.

Behind the closed and numbered caseback is a Sellita SW510-M manually-wound column-wheel chronograph movement with a stop-seconds feature and 63 hours of power reserve. Lastly, the limited-edition version of the Scalegraph comes with either a steel beads-of-rice bracelet or a steel flat link bracelet — both of which come with a navy blue Alcantara fabric strap as well.
