Since its inception in 1975, Oakley has grown into one of the most iconic and innovative eyewear outfits on the planet, with an ever-growing, ever-more-advanced catalog of envelop-pushing, performance-focused glasses and goggles. And for the California company’s latest eyewear innovation, it’s fused snow goggles and sunglasses into a single hybrid item known as the Flex Scape.
The Lens
Taking inspiration from the company’s existing Kato cycling glasses, the Flex Scape features a modern-looking design that gets rid of the traditional nose-opening and replaces it with an ergonomic contoured construction that allows the frame and single-piece lens it’s housing to sit over the nose. This mask-like fitment is not only more snug and precisely, but the design also provides markedly better coverage and field-of-vision. This single-layer, single-piece lens benefits from the use of Oakley’s HDO Technology as well as its Prizm tech — with the Flex Scape initially being offered in Prizm 24K and Prizm Snow Sapphire options.
The Frame
The Flex Scape is constructed around a thin, goggle-style frame that features a fleece-lined moisture-wicking gasket that can be installed for snow sports or use on the mountain, and then removed for regular walking-around the daily-use applications. This goggle-glasses hybrid also comes loaded with a trio of different-sized Unobtainium nosepads in order to ensure a more precise fit.
The Attachment
Instead of using regular stems or a strap, the Flex Scape employs a cleverly-designed interchangeable system. This hybrid eyewear item ships with a set of stems, as well as a woven strap. With a removable gasket and the ability to swap out the stems for a strap — just like one of our favorite pairs of motorcycle glasses, the Bobster Gunner — the Flex Scape offers an incredible amount of versatility.
