Few running shoes are more iconic than Nike’s Pegasus. Prior to its debut in 1983 and following the running boom that occurred in the previous decade, running shoes in general had become more specialized. And so Nike decided to make a product for every runner, blending ideas from its existing models, like the waffle soles from the mid-’70s Waffle Trainer or the cushioning from the Cortez. Affordable, versatile, and innovative, the Pegasus has released nearly one model per year — with the milestone Pegasus 40 model arriving last year. Now, Nike has already improved upon its predecessor with the Pegasus 41.

Taking after its predecessor, the Pegasus 41 is the first silhouette in the lineup to feature ReactX foam, which only improves the responsiveness (13% more responsiveness compared to traditional React foam) that the Pegasus has come to be known for. The ReactX surrounds a pair of Air Zoom units on the forefront and heel, which together yields superb cushioning and a lighter-weight energy return. To help Nike reach its goal of reducing its carbon footprint by 63% by 2030 (and net zero by 2050), the ReactX also cuts down carbon emissions by upwards of 43% compared to standard React foam.

Along with the midsole updates are the improved uppers, which have been redesigned with a breathable engineered mesh that increases breathability while decreasing weight. You also get the signature waffle-inspired rubber outsoles with incredible traction and flexibility, plus a plush collar tongue and sockliner for a secure, comfortable fit.

Weighing around 10.4oz, the Pegasus 41 is currently available in six unique colorways (with both Regular and Extra Wide options), and there’s also the ability to customize your own pair if you’re a registered Nike Member. Priced at $140 ($160 for custom models), the running shoe is currently up for grabs from Nike’s website.
