Salomon never planned for the XT-6 to become a fashion object. It launched in 2013 as a legitimate S/LAB racing shoe, built for alpine ultras and really not much else, before the style crowd decided to adopt it for Instagram fit checks.
Salomon certainly capitalized on the mainstream popularity, and shuffled it into the Sportstyle range in 2018. And now, nearly a decade later, the brand has finally designed an XT that knows exactly what it is from day one. Meet the all-new Salomon XT-EVO.
A Shell Game Up Top
The XT-EVO keeps the oversized mesh that XT diehards will recognize on sight, then wraps the whole forefoot in a sculpted overlay Salomon calls “liquid rubber,” which is full of swooping ridges that make the shoe feel like it’s in motion.
Same Trail-Bred Guts
Underneath, you get the agileCHASSIS stability system paired with an EnergyCell midsole, a molded OrthoLite sockliner, and Salomon’s one-pull quickLACE setup complete with the little lace garage on the tongue.
The deep-lugged Mud contaGRIP outsole carries over too. At 13 oz with a 10mm drop, it sits right in line with its older sibling on paper.
Reading Between the Colorways
Salomon technically previewed this silhouette through a two-colorway Kith collab earlier this month, but the in-line launch brings three new options. There’s a murdered-out Black/Asphalt, a silvery Alloy/Castlerock, and a Black/Fiery Red/White.
That last one isn’t random, either. Salomon says it’s a deliberate homage to one of the OG XT-6 launch colors from 2013, which feels like a great full circle moment.
