Ask any backpacker what lives outside their tent door and odds are it’s a pair of Classic Clogs. They’re light, they shrug off water, and they easily slip on in the dark. But those famous ventilation holes cut both ways because the same drainage that makes them perfect during the summer also makes them useless come winter. Rather than engineer a fix from scratch, Crocs went digging through its own back catalog and came up with the Tembo II RO.

A Deep Cut From 2010
The original Tembo was a fleece-lined winter clog Crocs was quietly shipping back in 2010, complete with a ripstop nylon collar you cinched shut with a cord and toggle. The silhouette came and went without much fanfare, which makes this revival a bit more of a deep cut.

The sequel cleans things up considerably. The bulky collar is gone, the silhouette is slimmer and more sneaker-like, and a simple nylon ladder lock across the vamp handles fit duty now.

The Vibram Treatment
Underfoot is where the real upgrade lives. Crocs only started working with Vibram this past April, when the $85 Classic EXP Clog became the brand’s first product ever to wear the Italian rubber specialist’s outsoles.

The Tembo II RO pushes that partnership further with a redesigned tread pattern built specifically for grip on wet and icy ground. And it’s clear that chevron-heavy sole means business.

Fleece Where It Counts
Inside sits a Polartec bootie liner, sourced from the outfit that basically invented modern synthetic fleece in its Malden Mills days. And the whole bootie clips out via that front strap, so you can easily wash it, or ditch it entirely once spring shows up.
