Only the second in Michael Jordan’s signature shoe series to be designed by the legendary Tinker Hatfield, the Air Jordan 4 entered into the cultural vernacular in 1989 and has since become a favorite of shoeheads and casual collectors alike. Following the rather clean design of the Air Jordan 3, the 4s featured arguably the most distinct style cues of any shoe that had ever hit the market, including the uniquely large over-molded mesh panel on the tops and sides, the plastic wings attached to the laces, and the plastic eyeleted wings near the ankle. With an ‘80s-inspired aesthetic, Nike has debuted the “Oxidized Green” colorway of the Air Jordan 4 Retro, featuring some throwback touches.

For this white-and-green Retro release, the athletic giant retains the overall design language of the Air Jordan 4s. The floating eyestays at the ankle utilize a leather material, not only elevating the look but keeping white in color to match the majority of the uppers, which are constructed using both full-grain and synthetic leather. Meanwhile, metallic green touches have been given to the smaller holed wings at the tops and bottoms of the laces. These provide subtle accenting and complement the metallic green above the sole, around the collar, on the mesh, and on the Jumpman logo.

In terms of performance, the Air Jordan 4 hasn’t lost a step. Along with the iconic Nike Air technology at the heel, which absorbs impact for a cushioned step, the rubber outsole has superb traction whether you’re taking these to the court or the street. Not only that but the wing eyestays help give you some extra support on your foot whether you’re walking, running, or jumping.

Head back to 1989 with these throwback-style Air Jordan 4 Retro sneakers in “Oxidized Green.” Priced at $215, they’re currently available from Nike’s website.
