Nike has proven time and time again that there are no limits when it comes to sneaker design — in fact, the footwear giant may have even been the one that threw out the rule book. From subtle concepts to the staggeringly overt homages, the list of interesting and yet still desirable silhouettes seems to be neverending. Now, taking on one of its most iconic models ever, Nike has dropped a cheeseburger-themed Air Jordan 1 Mid SE, and we couldn’t want it more!
On paper, the colorway is listed as Flax/Sesame/Coconut Milk/University Gold, but the foodie tribute is ever apparent. Presented in a highly wearable brown hue to represent the bun of the sandwich, the genuine leather uppers are trimmed with ketchup red. There’s also a suede texture on the side for a premium touch. It’s matched with a cheesy yellow on the tongue and the Swoosh logo, the latter of which sports a dripping effect and extends around the heel, serving as a rare glimpse of playfulness on these surprisingly refined sneakers. A lighter brown, standing in as the sesame seeds on this burger, can be found on the Wings logo up top and above the toes. Of course, you don’t always want too much lettuce on your patty, so Nike relegates the green to the corduroy area around the collar to round out the design. Topping it off the theming is a faux receipt print on the insole.
Fans of the AJ1 can expect the same fervent dedication to comfort here as well, regardless of any slight irreverence. Underfoot, the foam midsole will provide the level of comfort you can expect with any pair of Nikes, while the hidden Air tech inside further absorbs any impacts. Matching the premium uppers with a brown rubber outsole for traction, the brand went with a natural off-white color for the sole in between, alleviating any sort of aversion to these fun themed sneakers.
