Garrett Leight and Birdwell Embrace SoCal Surf Culture with a Sunny Capsule

Being based in the heart of Los Angeles and all, Garrett Leight is well aware of the Golden State’s shoreside roots. Looking to channel it wholeheartedly, the eyewear expert has teamed up with another SoCal label in Birdwell to deliver a new capsule inspired by ’60s surf and skate culture.

At first glance, it’s safe to say that this is one of the more summer-appropriate collections to hit the scene as of this year’s first quarter. It starts with a graphic tee but is also equipped with a stylish pair of boardshorts and a sporty jacket. The 311 Board Shorts are composed of a durable SurfNyl body and feature Birdwell’s signature wax pocket and key loop. Moving on to the spread-collar Competition Jacket, which also offers a SurfNyl makeup and more trademark embellishments from the Santa Ana brand, like a velcro-patched sleeve for interchangeable patches.

One standout from this collection is the stylish Troubadour sunglasses, boasting a subdued, translucent resin colorway and rounded out with green mineral glass lenses. The sleek shades are made sturdy thanks to five-barrel hinges with genuine rivets. As an added touch, the Troubadours comes packaged in a custom case sustainably made from ethically-sourced cactus leather. While Garrett Leight’s collection of sunglasses may be sprawling, this new pair stands out as an easy pick for any beach day.

We might still be a few months away from summer, but there’s no problem with getting a head start on the season. Garrett Leight’s latest joint effort with Birdwell, which also includes a collection of patches and a co-branded baseball cap, is available on the brand’s website now, with pieces starting from $40.
