Red Wing Built a Moc Toe for Norwegian Winters, and America Finally Gets a Pair

Few boots are as easy to spot across a parking lot as Red Wing’s moc toe. It’s one of our all time favorite boots, and a silhouette that’s been stomping around American job sites since 1952. What’s less known is that the boot enjoys an equally devoted following some 4,000 miles away in Norway, where Red Wing has built a longstanding fan base. The brand leaned into that connection back in 2024 with a Norwegian-market winter moc that unfortunately was never available here in the states. Until now, that is. Red Wing is righting that wrong with the new Norway Moc.

A Minnesota Boot With a Norwegian Passport

The original Norway Moc, the 8209, was cooked up by Red Wing’s design team alongside its sales crew in Norway, and was then released as a limited run through the brand’s European dealers. The kicker? Every pair was handmade in Red Wing, Minnesota, meaning Americans were stuck scouring eBay for a boot that was built in their own backyard.

This new 8213 fixes all of that with a proper US release. And Red Wing didn’t phone in the launch either, tapping filmmaker Benjamin Hardman to haul a pair from Minnesota all the way to a cabin in Svalbard, which is just outside the northernmost inhabited town on Earth.

Scotch Grain Does the Heavy Lifting

The upper is cut from a new Scotch-grain embossed take on Red Wing’s Copper Rough & Tough leather, tanned by S.B. Foot Tanning Co. like every Heritage boot. That pebbled texture isn’t just for looks, either. Red Wing claims the embossing makes the hide four times more water resistant.

It remains a pull-up leather with zero finishing pigments, so it’ll still scuff, darken, and patina the way a proper Red Wing should.

Rated for 10 Below

Underfoot sits a Vibram Fire & Ice Lug outsole that keeps its grip down to -23°C, or roughly 10 below zero Fahrenheit. It’s attached via a Norwegian-style storm welt, a raised seam that adds one more barrier against slush finding its way into your boots.

Inside, a moisture-wicking canvas lining and padded collar manage warmth, while the removable foam footbed wears a felted wool cover for insulation. It’s all built on Red Wing’s roomier Last 45, which leaves space for the thick socks you’ll be wearing during the colder months.
