Whether you sit in an office or work from home, it can be hard to keep your workspace clean. Your desktop is cluttered with papers, mail, cupholders, chargers, and other miscellaneous things that you “need,” leaving room only for your computer. But what if this whole time it was your computer that was the clutter? And what if you could use a computer without having a large desk sitting there just for you to put things on top of? No, we’re not talking about putting your laptop on your lap. We’re talking about a computer screen that floats in the air — kinda. Israeli tech company Sightful has just unveiled the first-of-its-kind augmented reality “laptop” that it’s calling Spacetop.

The way it works is simple for the user. You put on your set of NReal AR glasses, which displays an immersive high-resolution display on a virtual canvas of over 100”, and then use the compact 10″x10.5″ base of the screenless laptop to do your typing and scrolling. Whether you use one screen or two or more, Spacetop is designed to accommodate. You can customize your own workflow — however massive or minuscule — and have the benefit of total privacy as well. Running on Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, the computer itself boasts 256GB of storage with 8GB of memory, and you can only surmise that these specs will continue to improve over time.

An augmented reality monitor provides solutions outside of just cleaning up your workspace — although you can now shrink down your desk size if you’d like, or remove it altogether. With a screen that goes wherever your eyes do, you no longer have to worry about your computer affecting your posture and giving your neck pain. You can also work from anywhere you’d like, as Spacetop is made for working on the go as well. Cramped airplanes and crowded coffee shops are no longer an issue with a virtually limitless screen that takes up no space at all.

Developed by veterans from Apple and Microsoft and after $61 million in funding, the Spacetop is now a reality and expected to ship out in the next few months. Head over to Sightful’s website to learn how you can be one of the first to own one.
