It looks like Whoop might finally have a challenger worth losing sleep over. Not another startup with a fabric band and a pitch deck, but Garmin, the most entrenched name in serious training wearables, which just went screenless for the first time with the Cirqa Smart Band.
But the more interesting story is who’s doing the walking. This is the brand who’s whole business model is selling information density. And yet, its newest wearable shows you nothing at all until you open the app

The Numbers Brand Goes Dark
The Cirqa wraps a small module in a soft fabric band, worn on the wrist or the upper arm, and lasts up to 10 days on a single charge. Underneath, it’s running the full Garmin surveillance suite: heart rate, Pulse Ox, skin temperature, stress, and Body Battery, all day and all night.

Sleep is clearly the priority here. You get stages, a morning score, HRV status, respiration, and even nap detection. There’s one lone side button for firing off a favorite workout, but the band also auto-detects from a pool of 80-plus activities and refines its guesses as you confirm or correct them in Garmin Connect.

Night Shift for Your Fenix
Here’s the part that Whoop’s going to have a tough time competing. Anyone who’s tried sleeping in a 51mm Fenix knows that Garmin’s best watches are miserable bedmates, so plenty of owners simply forfeit their sleep data. The Cirqa aims to solve that issue and catch those valuable recovery hours.

The hand-off is seamless, too. Rock the big watch by day, and swap to the band after dark. Garmin’s Connect treats it as one continuous stream which means your readiness, VO2 max, and recovery numbers all just keep rolling.

About That Subscription Thing
The other jab at the 800-pound gorilla is the receipt. Whoop still won’t sell you hardware without a membership, which starts at $199 per year and never stops. The Cirqa is $199.99 once, with every metric landing in the free version of Connect.

That’s also a message to Garmin’s own faithful, who braced for paywall creep when the optional Connect+ tier arrived last year. Whatever that experiment becomes, we’re happy to say the Cirqa isn’t part of it – not yet, at least.
