Tiny Vinyl Shrunk the Turntable to Match Its 4-Inch Records

Somewhere along the line, the vinyl revival got really expensive. What started with crate-digging for $5 used LPs has since spiraled into acrylic platters, isolation feet, and cartridges that cost more than the shelf they sit on. Tiny Vinyl, the Nashville outfit whose 4-inch records have colonized Target’s music aisle over the past year, is pulling the hobby in the opposite direction with its new Tiny Vinyl Player.

Scratch-Built in Music City

The little records spin at 33⅓ RPM on most manual turntables, and the founders liked it that way. Then the brand pressed its millionth record in barely a year of existence, and both fans and Target started asking for hardware to match.

Rather than rebadging some existing suitcase player, co-founders Jesse Mann and Neil Kohler leaned on their Nashville connections, tapping the designer behind Marshall’s Bluetooth accessory line for the initial sketches. The tonearm, platter, and control panel were all engineered from scratch for the smaller format, with only the cartridge and needle pulled off the shelf. Even the motor had to be specially calibrated to hold 33⅓ RPM at this scale.

A Half-Stack for Your Nightstand

Measuring 10 by 6 by 5 inches, the clamshell Player wears a pebbled faux leather wrap with a mesh speaker grille up front, giving it the look of a mini guitar amp. Stack it atop the matching $20 Crate, which holds 30 records, and you’ve built yourself a desktop half-stack. A $15 Frame rounds out the lineup, displaying four sleeves on your wall.

Pop the lid and you’ll find a manual belt-drive turntable, a simple control panel, and a slot that stashes five records. Power comes via USB-C, though it does require the included wall adapter rather than your laptop.

The Cheapest Analog Rig in America

Are the built-in speakers any good? Probably not. It’s a tiny, $50 all-in-one machine, and physics can only accomplish so much. The saving grace lives around back, where Bluetooth and a 3.5mm output let you route those little grooves through real speakers or headphones.
