Nike’s Air Jordan 1 Stash Is a Utilitarian Version of the Classic Silhouette

Michael Jordan got his first signature shoe in 1984, which was released a few months later in ‘85, thus revolutionizing the idea of athletes’ signature shoes and also sneaker culture as a whole. MJ was only a rookie when the Air Jordan 1 first debuted, but the Chicago Bull went on to become arguably the greatest athlete of all time and one of the most recognizable people on the planet.

Through its many iterations and colorways, however, the Air Jordan 1 has never seen anything so unique and fresh as the Stash, a utilitarian rendition of the silhouette unveiled in black with ever-so-slight red accents and a white sole. The shoe comes equipped with a small “backpack” on the heel that serves as a zippered pocket, perfect for storing cash, cards, headphones, or whatever else you need for your day’s journey, especially if that journey includes a pick-up game on your local courts. The pocket itself sports a charcoal hue and is removable if you desire to wear these shoes without drawing any added attention to their uniqueness.

Despite the sleek look and subtle sheen of the uppers, the Stash is meant for life outdoors. Its canvas is made from durable material, featuring red webbing pulls that help hold the pocket cache onto the back. There is one flapped pocket on each of the lateral sides of the shoe’s exterior as well, with a red webbing loop for opening and closing. These pockets appear to be slightly smaller than the mini fanny pack but help Nike in its mission of creating a stylish yet functional outdoor shoe.

There is no information yet about whether any more colorways of the Stash will be made in the future, but this reworked take on the classic design sure looks great in this initial drop. Nike’s Air Jordan 1 Stash will be available on May 3 on Nike’s SNKRS app for $175.
