Despite the futuristic look of newer models and some major advancements being made in recent years, personal submarines are not novel. Companies like Triton have paved the way for not only the possibilities of underwater exploration but the luxury with which passengers can experience the journey.

For its second team-up with yacht designer Espen Øino International, Triton Submarines and frequent collaborator Dark Ocean Design have unveiled their plans for Project Hercules, a new short-range submersible that tips the scale in the direction of luxury at the cost of diving capability. With a maximum range of 656ft, Project Hercules is a far cry from Triton’s most accomplished submarines, which can head down to nearly 7mi from the surface. However, this new model has been built to simulate the experience of flying in a private jet, with more room inside for fewer people and speeds up to 8 knots.

Holding up to six passengers plus one pilot (with the option of passenger privacy), the hull has been turned 90 degrees on its x-axis to provide more of a lounge-like feel. Project Hercules is Triton’s first high-speed sub, but what makes it even more unique is its ability to glide through the water rather than moving vertically thanks to the unique arrangement of its four thrusters.
