As resto-mod campers and class C RVs seem to be perpetually increasing in popularity due to the nostalgia they evoke or the charm they exude, class A RVs continue to get relegated to tour buses and luxury glamping alternatives. However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for a little improvement on the 30-to-40-footer end of the spectrum either.
Canadian-based company LOKI Basecamp, which has become a noteworthy purveyor of pick-up campers with its flagship Falcon series of slide-ins and the more lightweight Icarus, has seemed to go all the way to the other end of the spectrum with the XL Coach Series, a new line of class A motorhomes built for the outdoor adventurer. Using the Prevost X3-45 VIP as its muse and base model for modification, LOKI’s latest Coach subsidiary has outfitted the RV for off-grid capabilities, with the inclusion of R16-rated insulation for any weather, enforced by both heated floors and a multi A/C system. With onboard domotics, the owner can easily manage energy and access utility controls as well.
Housed with a Volvo D13 six-cylinder engine with 1,850lb-ft of torque, the XL Coach will not only get you to whatever destination you can go on wheels but is built so you can enjoy your stay as well. Sleeping up to eight adults, the vehicle comes equipped with a full-size fridge, washing machine, dryer, UV water purifier, outdoor kitchen (and indoor induction cooktop), barbecue grill, and an additional 12V fridge. For entertainment, there are three TVs — including one outside — and a rooftop deck with a tent.
Who says going off the map can’t be done in comfort and style? LOKI is expanding the Coach series into a full-fledged subsidiary following the XL Coach, which is available through LOKI’s website.
