Jackery is an Oakland-based portable power and green outdoor energy solutions firm that’s been largely guided by a spirit of sustainability and innovation since its inception in 2012. On the heels of debuting its first portable power station range in 2016, the NorCal company introduced its inaugural solar panels in 2018 — since which time Jackery has emerged as an undisputed leader in the space. And with this year’s International Consumer Electronics Show now in full swing, Jackery is using the annual trade show as an opportunity to reveal a myriad of envelop-pushing solar and portable power products, including an overlanding-focused rooftop tent with an integrated trio of solar panel and generator setup.

Known as the Jackery Solar Generator for Rooftop Tent, this cutting-edge overlanding essential capitalizes on the standard, triangular, A-framed shape of modern hard-shell rooftop tents. Unlike normal hard-shell RTTs, Jackery’s new model replaces the tent’s front-facing hard panel with a full-sized solar panel that conceals two additional slide-out solar panels that collectively triple the system’s ability to harness energy from the sun — resulting in up to 1,000 watts of usable energy (at least under ideal conditions). This solar panel array feeds the system’s portable 1.26-kWh E1000 Plus power station which can afford 2000 watts of AC power. What’s more, with its two supplementary slide-out panels not deployed, the rooftop tent is able to gain a charge while the vehicle it’s mounted to is being driven.

In order to compete with other leading rooftop tent models, Jackery spent an extensive period developing its solar-equipped RTT, bestowing it with the type of features and amenities that we’ve come to expect in the premium RTT space. Sporting a clamshell design, the rooftop tent is fully insulated, allowing for year-round use in all but the most extreme climates — an area bolstered by the tent’s use of waterproof fabric. Beneath its hard shell and solar panels, the inside of the Jackery Solar Generator for Rooftop Tent also features colored dimmable lighting and a plush memory foam mattress. This bar-raising design has resulted in Jackery’s new solar tent to earn a coveted Red Dot Design Award, as well.

Currently on display at CES, the Jackery Solar Generator for Rooftop Tent is currently just a concept, though it’s expected to enter production within the next year — and presumably go on sale several months later.
