As the value of vintage cars continues to skyrocket, more and more enthusiasts are making the transition to collectors, and finding a place to store all of that fleet overflow can be a bit of a challenge. And if you own six and seven-figure 911’s, we’re sure industrial parks and rented warehouse bays aren’t very high on the list of desirable storage locations.
Porsche Design, the lifestyle arm best known for watches and sunglasses, thinks that’s a solvable problem, and it’s teamed up with Miami developer Newgard Development Group to prove it. The result is Porsche Design Concours, a members-only club concept built around privately owned garage suites.
Studios, Not Storage Units
The first two locations land in West Palm Beach and Dallas, each with 22 deeded “automobile studios” ranging from 2,700 to 6,000 square feet. For reference, the big ones carry roughly the footprint of three average American houses, and keep in mind, these are just for cars.
And these aren’t just bare concrete boxes, either. Every studio is climate controlled and comes with a mezzanine level, a full bathroom, and a wet bar. The idea here being you could take a morning call, host friends after dinner, and never lose sight of your collection. Ownership is by invitation only, naturally.
The Promenade Is the Point
Seeing that it’s Porsche, a conventional drive aisle was probably never going to be good enough. Each building is organized around The Concours, which is an interior automotive promenade that treats every arrival more like a gallery opening. The goal is to make your car feel like it’s part of the architecture the moment you pull in.
Gensler is penning the Dallas location while Urban Robot Associates handles West Palm Beach, both working from the restraint-first design vocabulary F.A. Porsche laid down when he founded the lifestyle brand back in 1972.
Leave the Crest at Home
Now, it’s worth mentioning that you don’t actually need a Porsche to get in. The club welcomes collections across marques and eras, which is how most serious garages not carrying the Porsche logo are doing things as well.
Each clubhouse also piles on padel, spa and wellness facilities, dining, private lounges, coworking, outdoor terraces, event spaces, a concierge, and 24-hour security.
Both sites are being positioned within 10 to 15 minutes of where each city’s collector crowd actually lives, with a national network of additional destinations planned once the first two open.
