Few sights on the road are as nostalgia-evoking as a vintage Ford Bronco. It’s something that Los Angeles-based customs shop ICON 4×4 has known for a while. In fact, just a few years after playing a pivotal role in the restomodded classic truck genre with its first Toyota FJ restomods in 2006, it started putting its own spin on the classic Bronco.

Now with over 100 Bronco builds, the firm has made the ultimate old-meets-new version with its first-ever all-electric Bronco.

Why Now?

Electrified vintage rides are nothing new but, according to ICON, they didn’t feel the current technology was up to their standards until lately. So after over 5,000 hours and 18 months of R&D, the pioneering firm was able to bring its vision to life — with the help of the folks at Moment Motor Company.

Performance Is Everything

It’s not just enough to deliver a gas-free Bronco; ICON wanted to make a version of its flagship model with the focus on power and drivability. As a result, they’ve given this vintage Bronco a 105kWh battery with upwards of 175 miles of range and evenly distributing the power to both front and rear wheels for a full-time all-wheel drive setup. The result is over 500hp and 440lb.ft of torque with a 0-to-60 time of 4.5 seconds.

Equipped for driving off-road as well, the company has also given the SUV an Advanced Reiger adjustable suspension and three driving modes — Eco, Normal, and Sport — for a more customized experience. Power steering is provided via a fully electro-hydraulic system and the wheels are equipped with Brembo brakes as well. The off-road capabilities are nothing new for ICON but now the EV Bronco features currie axles with rear LSD and ARB locking front differentials for better performance on a variety of terrains. For driving in low-standing water, the battery has been tested at IP67 waterproofing.

Very, Very Blue

Like every ICON build, the EV Bronco has an aesthetic you’d want to show off. Pairing with the blue exterior (giving this ride the nickname “Blue Star”), white leather adorns the interior (along with more blue). However, the brand encourages customization for the interior design when you place your own order.

The inside also features CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, power windows, power door locks, AMP Research-powered steps, electric heat and AC, and the signature ICON gauge cluster, which has been tweaked slightly for the new electric info. A vehicle control unit includes integrated battery management, power management, and vehicle management.
